Melany: Furie

Born to Jamaican immigrants in the Bedford‑Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn, Furie’s formative years were marked by an immersion in Caribbean visual culture (family photographs, textile patterns) and the vibrant street art scene of early‑1990s New York. She earned a BFA from the School of Visual Arts (2002) and later a MFA at the California Institute of the Arts (2005), where she studied under the painter Robert Storr and the digital media artist Casey Reas.
